Why Wearing Makeup or Not is Okay.
I am sick and tired of hearing comments about wearing makeup. As someone who wears makeup on a very regular basis, I find this insulting. If makeup isn’t your thing, that’s totally cool. But someone who does choose to wear makeup shouldn’t have to feel bad about it.
I won’t lie, when I first started wearing makeup in junior high it was because I felt too insecure without it. Little fourteen year old me with a mouth full of braces, bags under my eyes, and hormonal acne, couldn’t stand to look in the mirror. But as I got older and moved on to high school, I started to actually like makeup. I became comfortable with my skin that I didn’t feel like I needed makeup anymore, but that it was the highlight of my morning to be able to use it. Companies are always coming up with new eyeshadow colors and lipstick formulas I'm dying to try. I like my makeup and there's nothing wrong with that.
On the other side, not wearing makeup is great too. I love the feeling of rubbing my hands on my face and nothing being on my palms when I look at them. I need those sleep in till ten minutes before my 9 AM class mornings, where I don't have time for anything other than changing my clothes and brewing some coffee.
I guess my main point here is that feeling good about yourself is the most amazing feeling. And whether you feel good about yourself with makeup on or without it (or both because that's an option here), then great! However you feel isn't always how someone else feels and judging them for that isn’t fair.
And so the next time you find yourself scrolling through your Instagram feed or walking around campus don't think “Wow, look at all that makeup she's wearing” OR “Really? She's not wearing any makeup at all?” It's their face, not yours!
